Chords. An aspect of music that has never failed to fascinate me with its quality of harmony. It may simply be a combination of notes played together, but the influence it has on the "feel" of any musical piece is so powerful that it simply controls the way the song is woven, with so many nuances and subtleties thrown in for good measure.I've always enjoyed taking the chords for any song,be it a Rahman number or a classic Beethoven-the time consuming task promises to be a refreshing one,but for some songs this could prove otherwise;especially if the song has very complex/unusual progressions and retrogressions or when you're short of time.I've faced some situations where at least one of the two were a factor.
So I started searching the net for a software that would automatically generate chords for any music that goes through my sound card and ergo help me out of tight spots.Good ol' Google failed, and my quests in forums turned out to be unanswered requests.Well,Providence decided to show some mercy and I finally found what I was looking for-EasyChords,a Plugin for Winamp that makes the job of taking chords look like child's play(when it isn't,of course).
I was initially hesitant to even test this;after all,was an Algorithm better than the Music that is inherent in my very DNA? Well,I smugly thought, let me prove what crap this software is.Download and Installation were a breeze and the plugin seamlessly plugged-in to Winamp.I decided to test it on Vellai Pookal,a song with normal chord progressions. The program took a full 2 minutes to "map" the chords...but I guess those 120 odd seconds were worthy. It would be an understatement to say that the chords rendered were passable;in fact they were close to being accurate.Dil se re was a let down though..
But I suggest you give this plugin a try if you're a chord buff-it should definitely prove interesting.Note that you need to have Winamp installed.
