Every person who owns a PC probably uses it for listening to songs,myself being no exception.For me a day isn't complete if I dont listen to songs(especially ARR's..they rock!) And I believe Winamp's the coolest player out there..I use the latest version(5.35-get it here ).Some of you may be inclined to disagree with my view.So let me justify my claim.
I've been using this cool player right from the day I bought my PC.And Winamp is one of the reasons I fell in love with the computer.Winamp's got a whole load of features that make it better than any other player:
1.Searching features:
Winamp wins hands down here, as phrases or individual words can be searched for (even wildcards are supported). You can add all your music files to the Media Library;once that is done searching for a song is child's play.
2.Burning/Ripping MP3s:
The full version of Winamp supports burning songs/sound files at your CD RW's max speed.You can also rip audio files from CDs at the max speed in a wide range of formats-MP3,AAC,etc.
3.Skin it!
Winamp can work with both old and new skins.Using a skin gives Winamp a totally new feel.Several thousands of skins are available at winamp.com.
4.Visualizations:
Several cool visualizations allow you to relax your eyes whilst listening to your fav tracks.
5.SHOUTCAST:
Steaming videos(right from cartoons to hardcore porn) and Radio(from tamil songs to Metallica).
Winamp can use both Modern and Classic skins, so you can be both hip and retro at the same time.
Winamp gives you easy and organized access to your favorite media. That's what you call mass media
Winamp can play a huge variety of audio and video formats right out of the box... err... out of the installation.
You get access to hundreds of free audio and video channels in the Media Library. This ain't your father's library.

Okay,with these features,I'll put in some ideas that will help you enhance the entity that matters most-Sound.
Most of my friends use a Plugin called DFX audio.In my opinion,this plugin is total rubbish compared to iZotope Ozone.Put simply, Ozone makes music sound better. Ozone adds warmth, bass, sparkle and an overall desirable sound to your MP3s. Unlike other "enhancers", it improves your music by modeling the analog characteristics of vintage audio equipment such as tube amplifiers and valve equalizers. So instead of sounding harsh and hollow, your music sounds deep and full. The free version allows you to select from presets that simply make music sound better. The full version gives you control over a EQ, bass compressor, tube amplifier, and room simulator settings as well as a preset system that's simply unmatched.Ok, let's face it - I'm not an audiophile. I'm not an audio pro. I don't even hear subtle nuances in music. I don't know the terms used. I just care about the feeling. Hence: lot's of crap will follow...Listening to FLACs on a pair of really good professional audio monitors (with reasonably flat freq.response 85Hz-20kHz and very good sounding lows) is much more _enjoyable_ when this plugin is enabled. The room simulation really adds some life to the sound even at low SPL. Reverb or what ever you audiophiles call it. If I turn off the room simulation, the sound becomes boringly flat. I'll still have a wonderfull sound stage thanks to these two gems, but it's so... static and boring. More exact and defined maybe, but in my opinion it really looses some "life".The tube amplifier bass compression also enhances my listening experience. It makes the bass sound much more like my grand grand mothers valve radio - and that's not a bad thing! Progressive trance, for example, just sounds SO MUCH better! I like that wonderfull bass! Without Ozone the sound becomes very dry and analytical.I don't have clue about how this Ozone sounds with the usual "multimedia speakers", and frankly I don't want to know :)
I advise you to download this plugin if you're using Winamp(and I strongly recommend dumping DFX and switching to this instead). For the best sound, select the setting "Xing encoded MP3" under Restore.Then increase the input and output gains to 0.5 and 2 dB respectively.I get such hi-fi sound in this setting that listening to music becomes and ecstatic experience every time!
